Speaker’s Bio

On May 11, 2011, Mr. Klaus Kleinfeld, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alcoa Inc., one of the world’s largest producers of aluminum, will give a lecture at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (SEM) with the topic “Cultivating Leadership Ability.” The lecture is jointly organized by the Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE) and Tsinghua SEM Career Development Center (CDC). Mr. Kleinfeld originally joined Alcoa in 2007 as President and Chief Operating Officer before assuming CEO responsibilities seven months later. He has served on Alcoa's board of directors since 2003 and was named Chairman in April 2010. Prior to Alcoa, Mr. Kleinfeld spent 20 years with Siemens where he served as Chief Executive Officer beginning in 2005. In addition, he is a member of the board of Bayer AG, was appointed Chairman of the U.S.-Russia Business Council (USRBC) in September 2009 and was elected to the Brookings Institution Board of Trustees in May 2010.
